Shirly Tang


Shirly Tang, a native German, obtained her postgraduate degree in Translation Studies and Linguistics from the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University Bonn, Germany. She also holds a Certificate in Teaching German as a Foreign Language from the same university.

Ms. Tang taught at various academic institutions in Germany and Taiwan. Since joining the University of Hong Kong, she has been engaged in curriculum design & development for content-based courses (“Understanding Germany and her German-speaking neighbours”, “Translation English-German” and “German for Business”) and the development of an online-learning tool “Student Corner” for language acquisition.

Ms. Tang´s research interests involve Sociolinguistics, methodology and didactics of foreign language acquisition.


Outreach and experiential learning activities
- Visiting German-speaking companies and institutions in Hong Kong including the various Consulates General

Inviting external guest speakers to give talks about various topics concerning German-speaking countries and societies to students of different faculties

Online-learning
“Student Corner Project” - it is an online-learning tool that focuses on enhancing the students´ learning experience through a more interactive multimedia environment.
