6TH Inter-University
German Speech Competition Motto: „Höher, schneller, weiter?“ |
|
Final: Saturday, November 12, 2016, 2 – 6 pm This year, the 6th Inter-University German Speech Competition will be held with the theme being: "Höher, schneller, weiter?" (Higher, faster, further?). This motto matches the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, which just ended recently, and it is not restricted to sports only. Around the globe, especially in Hong Kong, peak performances are nowadays expected in every area. We pose a question to our candidates: Can we still go on with such high expectations and do we have to do so? This competition is organised by the German language departments of five universities, namely Hong Kong Baptist University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong City University, the University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut and the consulates of Germany, Austria and Switzerland in Hong Kong. Students studying the German language at these five universities can now apply for the competition at their German language department accordingly. Each of the participating universities will choose their three best candidates to compete in the final on November 12 at the Hong Kong Baptist University, the hosting university of this year. The presentations will be adjudicated by an independent jury, consisting of members of the consulates of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and the Goethe-Institut. The evaluation criteria are, first and foremost, the interpretation of the main theme in relation to content, argumentation as well as creativity and language skills of each candidate. Prizes: All 15 finalists will be awarded a Swatch watch sponsored by Presence Switzerland. For the first time, an audience award will be given this year. The audience can win a scholarship of a cultural-specific course at the Goethe-Institut Hongkong and other special prizes by participating in a quiz on D-A-CH countries (Germany (D), Austria (A) and Switzerland (CH)).
