Jan Risser joined the German Programme at the School of Modern Languages and Cultures in 2024.
He holds a double Master`s degree in Intercultural German Studies (Göttingen, 2016) and German Philology (Nanjing, 2015) for language-comparative studies exploring cultural-semiotic layers in German and Chinese phraseology, and a Bachelor`s degree in East-Asian Studies (Berlin, 2012) for Studies on Chinese conceptual history.
He is qualified as instructor for German as a foreign language (Göttingen, 2014) and has been actively teaching and promoting German as a foreign language at international schools in Namibia and China since 2016, as well as translating between Chinese and German.
Between 2016 and 2019 he was on the editorial board of German-speaking literary magazine "Felsgraffiti" with regular publications and also member of the Namibia Scientific Society.
Since 2023 he is a qualified examiner for the German proficiency certificate on Levels A1 to C1 by the Goethe Institute.
