Objectives (as set out in 2014-2015, 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 KE funding proposal)

This Knowledge Exchange (KE) project aims to enhance the interest within the general Hong Kong community in learning German language and understanding its culture. Staff and students of the German Programme at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) initiate outreach programmes benefitting local secondary school students in Hong Kong through organizing various language and cultural workshops. It also provides HKU German Programme students the opportunity of experiential and extended learning outside classroom experience and of mentoring experience.

The KE project offers a unique and valuable experience for local secondary students to have a first taste of learning the German language and understanding its culture. More importantly, through this KE project, secondary school students may gain recognition in Other Learning Experience (OLE) for the fulfillment of DSE requirements. The KE project also supports students’ whole-person development by expanding their horizons through learning about a different language and culture. After all, under the New Academic Structure (NAS), every student is encouraged to build up a Student Learning Profile (SLP) which includes achievements gained by students through OLE. This is because universities will also consider the experiences and achievements of students through OLE in their JUPAS applications.
